After the redundancies, squad clear out and negotiations with creditors, in early 1996 a rescue package was presented to the club’s creditors. This would eventually be backed by the Inland Revenue, but the club was in a perilous state.
The Reporter launched a “pledge a pound” campaign locally – donations came from all sectors of the RL family – former players and officials, local businesses and long-suffering supporters.
The club started the start of Super League with a new coach in Neil Kelly and a fresh start.
