2000 Super League dreams
After a successful season and victory in the Championship Grand Final, Dewsbury were eyeing promotion into Super League. They had a few weeks following the win to convince the Rugby League Council that they met the promotion criteria – which essentially required an upgrade to the stadium facilities.
Hopes were high that that Dewsbury could be promoted – having arranged an alternative ground (Sheffield’s Don Valley Stadium) if the necessary works were incomplete at the beginning of the new season.
Despite the confidence of the management and the enthusiasm of the supporters, the request would be denied.
