Dewsbury- Yorkshire Champions
The 1880-81 Season saw the clubs first trophy success in the Yorkshire Challenge Cup. Dewsbury met Wakefield Trinity in the final where Alfred Newsome’s drop goal secured victory.
The Dewsbury public were so impressed by the victory, the team received a rapturous reception when they returned with the trophy. A quickly arranged collection raised £133 and was used to purchase commemorative clocks and watches for the winning team.
