By 1914 the club was on a sound financial footing, the club was profitable, and memberships now numbered 750. The outbreak of World War One impacted all rugby league but the club, nevertheless invested in a covered stand (which remained virtually unchanged until the fire in 1988) and white painted railings to surround the field of play.
