By 1914 the club was on a sound financial footing, the club was profitable, and memberships now numbered 750. The outbreak of World War One impacted all rugby league but the club, nevertheless invested in a covered stand (which remained virtually unchanged until the fire in 1988) and white painted railings to surround the field of play.

Cosh Richardson , pictured here in 1912 with the Challenge Cup. Cosh had a long playing career with Dewsbury, playing before and after the move to the Northern Union.  Before signing for Dewsbury he played for another local team, the Dewsbury Mashers.
